UPDATE: The Celtics recalled Marcus Morris after Monday's practice with the Red Claws. They also assigned Jabari Bird to the G-League on Monday afternoon.
Brad Stevens told reporters in Miami on Saturday that he wanted to see Marcus Morris get a good, hard practice in before he makes his season debut. It looks like Morris will get an opportunity to do that with the Maine Red Claws over the next couple days as Marc Spears of the Undefeated is reporting that the veteran forward has been assigned to the G-League as he rehabs from his knee injury.
The Red Claws do not start their season until Friday Nov. 3 so it appears Morris will get some extended run in with the Maine roster as they wrap up their training camp over the next few days. Morris has missed the first six games of the regular season as he recovers from a sore right knee that popped up after his late arrival to training camp.
The Celtics are not scheduled to practice on Tuesday afternoon before facing off with the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, which could have helped the team reach the decision to get Morris some court time in Maine. Assuming there are no setbacks for Morris in Maine, Wednesday's game against the Kings or Friday's against the Thunder look like the new targets for a potential return date.
