Bruins camp: Day 2, first session taken at Warrior Ice Arena (Bruins)

Adam Richins

Here are some quick observations from the morning session:

  • I like how hands-on Bruce Cassidy is during practice.

  • Forward Peter Cehlarik (shoulder) is still sporting a red no-contract practice sweater.

  • One drill simulated a congested neutral zone and how to use the side wall to gain the offensive zone with speed.

  • Zach Senyshyn had control of the puck during a 2-on-1 drill, busted around a defender and beat Malcolm Subban with a nifty top-shelf goal.

  • There’s supposed to be an internal competition for backup role but after two days no one has really stood out. These types of high-tempo drills are tough for goalies because they’re seeing a lot of pucks.

  • It’s always a good sign when young players show their frustrations. It means they care and are never satisfied. A few times on Saturday, DeBrusk was clearly upset with himself. He's ramped up his compete level from last week's Prospects Challenge.

  • While the entire group worked on a 5-on-5 forecheck drill at one end of the ice, the goalies switched off working with coach Bob Essensa on controlling the puck and then reversing it behind the net at the other end of the ice. Anton Khudobin needs a little more work in this area.

  • No matter the outcome of the 2017-18 season, this team will be fun to watch, especially if the Bruins play like they practice.
