BSJ quickie analysis

This is a great deal for the Bruins. The 21-year-old forward was seeking an eight-year deal in the range of $8 to $8.5 million, but in, the end the sides found common ground and Pastrnak will begin the season on time.

Originally, the Bruins’ comparable contract was the Nashville Predators’ Filip Forsberg, who signed a six-year deal worth $6 per season in June. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney did not deviate from his plan and give Pastrnak a deal similar to what the Edmonton Oilers gave 21-year-old forward Leon Draisaitl, who inked an eight-year deal worth $68 million.

Pastrnak also makes out in this deal because he’ll become an unrestricted free agent at 27 and if his production continues, he’ll land a massive contract.

The Bruins are conducting off-ice testing today and Sweeney is scheduled to speak with the media afterward. Check back for more later.
