David Price activated from disabled list taken at Fenway Park (Red Sox)

The Red Sox today activated David Price from the 10-day disabled list, returning him to the active roster for the first time since the final week of July. The lefthander will assume a role in the bullpen for the remainder of the season, and into the playoffs should the Red Sox qualify.

We wrote about the latest developments with Price on Wednesday.

Price has been out for the last seven weeks with inflammation in his left elbow and some soreness in the triceps area.

After throwing his second simulated game Wednesday, the Sox had anticipated Price throwing another on Monday. Instead, he was activated Thursday morning.

"He's pitch out of the bullpen,'' announced manager John Farrell. "Later this weekend will be his first availability. Ideally, it's sometime Sunday or Monday for his first availability. We feel like he's capable of a couple inning role out of that bullpen. We'll see how this develops in these final two and a half weeks.

"I think there will be some spots that will emerge naturally. I think the one thing he's shown in these two (sim games) is a full assortment of pitches, good power to his fastball. From a physical standpoint, he's passed those tests to put him in this position. We're looking forward to getting him back in game activity.''

Price has a history of pitching in relief in the post-season. He did so as a rookie with Tampa Bay in 2008 and again in the ALCS for Toronto in 2015.
