Mitchell headed to injured reserve

FOXBOROUGH — According to multiple reports, wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell was placed on injured reserve on Thursday by the team, and the the team promoted offensive lineman Ted Karras from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Mitchell, who was battling knee injuries over the course of the summer, is eligible to return later in the season. But it removes another option at the wide receiver spot for New England, an area that has already seen the Patriots lose Julian Edelman.

As for Karras, he brings some added depth to the interior of the offensive line — he currently projects as the backup center (to David Andrews) and both guard spots (Shaq Mason, Joe Thuney).
