Julian Edelman’s MRI revealed that he has a complete tear of the ACL in his right knee, according to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com.
The wide receiver was injured when he went down awkwardly in the first quarter of Friday’s preseason win over the Lions. Edelman had just hauled in his third catch of the night and was trying to evade a Detroit defender when his knee gave way. He limped off the field, and was seen on crutches after the game.
We have complete coverage here at Bostonsportsjournal.com. For a closer look at the nature of the injury, Jessica Flynn has that story here. Greg A. Bedard has a column on that fact that, Edelman or no Edelman, the Patriots remain the team to beat. And here’s a look at some reactions to the injury from rivals, teammates and some of Edelman’s former teammates.
UPDATE, 3:05 p.m., Saturday: The Patriots have announced Edelman "suffered an injury to his right knee in last night’s game and will miss the 2017 season."
