Celtics opening night is just over two months away and now we know where the C's will be playing for the rest of their 82-game regular schedule after the NBA released all 2017-18 matchups on Monday evening.
The addition of All-Star Gordon Hayward to the roster has made the Celtics a more attractive draw in the eyes of TV executives, as Boston will play 25 of their contests on national TV (11 TNT, 10 ESPN, 4 ABC). That's a three game increase from last season and a monumental jump from the 2014-15 season when the league had Boston slated for just one national TV game (that they were eventually flexed out of).
All five of the team’s matchups against the Golden State Warriors (Nov. 16, Jan. 27) and Cleveland Cavaliers (Oct. 17, Jan. 3, Feb. 11) will be featured on TNT, ESPN, or ABC. That Jan. 27 contest against the Warriors will also be the C's first Saturday night national TV game in primetime on ABC at Oracle Arena.
An earlier start to the season will allow for some additional rest on the schedule for Boston. The Green will play 14 back-to-backs all year long, which is a decrease of three back-to-backs from last year. The 14 back-to-backs are also a 30 percent decrease from the total number during the 2013-14 season, as the NBA prioritizes the recovery process more and more with its players.
The Celtics will open up their home schedule with a second half of back-to-back on Oct. 18 against the Milwaukee Bucks, but they will spend a lot of time away from the TD Garden early in the season, playing seven of their first 11 games on the road. The home schedule gets friendlier in February, when Boston hosts seven of its 11 games.
