Live coverage: Practice No. 9 taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

FOXBOROUGH -- It's an overcast morning down here on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium, but the BSJ crew is here for another morning of training camp. One more day of work -- Sunday is an off-day -- before the Jags come to town on Monday. Let's see what happens...

• Looks like full pads this morning. Chris Hogan is the first guy on the field.

• Left tackle Nate Solder is back at practice after a couple of days where he was missing -- same for wide receiver Cody Hollister. (Joe Thuney is also back after leaving the field prematurely on Friday.) Special teams captain Matthew Slater was the only regular not spotted at the start of the workout. Meanwhile, defensive lineman Alan Branch,  linebacker Dont'a Hightower and offensive lineman Andrew Jelks continue to work off to the side.

• Once practice got underway, Solder, Hollister, tight end James O'Shaughnessy, running back Mike Gillislee and defensive back David Jones were part of a group that went down to the lower fields to work out. They were joined soon after that by Mitchell.

• Solder is back, but it appears they are doing some rotating at left tackle, bringing in Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle in different circumstances. (Marcus Cannon continues to get the bulk of the reps at right tackle, as expected.) A positional battle for the swing tackle role?

Rob Gronkowski was flagged for a false start and had to run a lap. The crowd greeted him with cheers at every corner.

• It looks like the offense is going against cards, which could mean the Patriots are prepping for what they'll see next week with the Jaguars come to town.

• Starting to rain here in Foxborough, but work is continuing here on the field with 11-on-11s. Both sides were focused on situational football throughout the 11-on-11 work -- they were given down and distance, and asked to respond. Some guys did well, others, not so much.

Dwayne Allen is having a good morning. Made a couple of really nice catches, including in passing drills and in 11-on-11 work. If he can continue on this arc -- and keep blocking everyone in sight, as he's done so far -- it'll represent a really good few days for the veteran tight end.

Jonathan Jones just had a really nice pass breakup on a deep ball attempt from Jacoby Brissett to D.J. Foster. Really impressive. He also did a good job breaking up a pass attempt for Edelman. (That was sandwiched around a bobbled a kick return. You take the good, you take the bad...)

Jimmy Garoppolo just completed a deep ball to Hogan, but the play was negated because he would have been almost certainly sacked by Lawrence Guy.

• It's a relatively low-intensity workout this morning. Has a Friday, regular-season feel to it.

• Just had an eventful three-play sequence for Garoppolo in 11-on-11s: He completed a really impressive deep ball to Devin Lucien, and then followed that up with a fumble (likely caused by the rain, as well as a not-so-great snap). He was then picked off by Nate Ebner.

•Brady also had a mishandled snap because of the weather, but was able to quickly recover and complete the pass to Hogan.
