So much for the Andrew Hawkins Era in New England.

The wide receiver, who was signed as a free agent this past offseason with the Patriots, announced Tuesday that he was going to retire. The 32-year-old made the statement on the Twitter feed of the show “Uninterrupted.”

“After OTAs, through summer training, my body just didn’t respond and wasn’t feeling the way it should going into camp,” Hawkins said. “It was either this or the alternative -- which was not great for me or where I’m at in my career.”

Hawkins spent six years with the Bengals and Browns. He finishes his career with 209 catches for 2,419 yards and nine touchdowns.
