FINAL: Saints 28, Patriots 13 - New England lays an egg to fall to 1-2 taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

(Adam Richins for BSJ)

FOXBOROUGH — Thanks to miscues in all three phases, the Patriots had no business being in the game in the fourth quarter against the Saints ... but they were after, finally, an offensive touchdown when Mac Jones hit Kendrick Bourne made the score 21-13 in favor of Newton with 9:22.

Plenty of time for the Patriots to comeback.

Only the defense couldn't get off the field. Again.

The Saints went on a 75-yard touchdown drive to drop to New England to 1-2, which could be disastrous with the Buccaneers coming to town a week from today.

It was all bad, especially Jonnu Smith, who had at least two drops, including one that went for a touchdown at the start of the second half to stake New Orleans to a 21-3 lead.

Mac Jones, who spent most of Sunday picking himself off the turf after getting hit, finished 30 of 50 for 270 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

ROSTER MOVES

- Patriots elevated LB Jahlani Tavai from the practice squad.

Just goes to show, you can never have too many special teams-only players on the active roster.

- Notable the Patriots did not elevate Tashawn Bower (Kyle Van Noy is now healthy).

Maybe Josh Uche can play once in a while.

-Saints elevated WR Kenny Stills and C Austin Reiter from the practice squad.

Still could cause some matchup issues
