PREGAME NOTES
Nathan Eovaldi, fresh off of being activated off the IL on Friday, will make his first start since June 8 — with the righty sidelined for over a month due to lower-back and hip ailments.
Along with Eovaldi, Garrett Whitlock was also activated off the injured list on Friday. To make room on the roster, Boston placed Matt Strahm (left wrist contusion) on the 15-day IL, retroactive to July 13, and optioned Phillips Valdez to Triple-A Worcester.
Trevor Story will not be placed on the IL, but the Sox infielder is set to miss his third straight game after suffering a hand contusion on Tuesday down in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Boston has lost eight of 10 games and is 5-12 since June 27, which is the second-worst record in the American League over that span.
