Final: Twins 8, Red Sox 4

The Minnesota Twins spoiled the Red Sox' home opener, racing out to a 4-0 lead by the second inning and holding on for an 8-4 decision at Fenway.

Starter Nick Pivetta lasted just two innings, and the Red Sox turned the game over to their bullpen from there. For the afternoon, six Red Sox pitchers combined to issue eight walks and hit two batters, Red Sox hitters didn't work a single walk, by contrast.

The Sox got a solo homer from Alex Verdugo and a two-run shot from Rafael Devers in the eighth, but were otherwise punchless with their attack.
