The bats of Boston put on a clinic in today's game, having 21 hits, with four of those being doubles, and two of them being home runs. Tyler O'Neill hit his ninth in the bottom of the first, and Ceddanne Rafaela hit his second of the year in the bottom of the seventh. Masataka Yoshida was in the lineup for the first time in eight days, and he came back firing with a 4-5 day, with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.
The pitching was a sight to see as well, as the bullpen of the Sox worked the whole game, with Josh Winckowski starting the game and throwing three innings, giving up only three hits. Brennan Bernardino would come in for an inning and gave up only one hit. Justin Slaten would pitch two innings, and get the win, where he gave up no hits and struck out two. Rookie Cam Booser also pitched two hitless innings, where he struck out three Cubs. And the pitcher to close out the game in the ninth inning, none other than infielder Pablo Reyes. He gave up a hit and a walk, but had some pretty impressive pitches for an infielder.
My Player of the Game: Ceddanne Rafaela - The young utility man had the best game of his young career, coming a triple shy of the cycle. He went 4-4 with a double, a home run, and a sacrifice fly. He had a team high seven RBI, which brings him to the team lead with 17 on the season.
The rubber match will be played at 7 p.m. tomorrow night on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Probable starters are Jordan Wicks (1-2, 4.70 ERA) and Tanner Houck (3-2, 1.65 ERA).
