Final: Yankees 5, Red Sox 4

For the second night in a row, the Red Sox won the battle --- and lost the war.

They prevented Aaron Judge from hitting a record-tying homer, but ultimately, lost to the Yankees, 5-4. On Thursday, it took extra innings; on Friday, they were beaten in nine innings.

The Yankees pulled ahead in the eighth when an errant pickoff attempt by reliever Matt Strahm allowed Harrison Bader to go from first to third. He then scored on a run-scoring single from catcher Jose Trevino.

Also, for the second straight night, the Red Sox got a big three-run homer: this one from Alex Verdugo. But it wasn't enough.

Judge, meanwhile, was 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
