Final: Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 3
It was bad. But it wasn't 28-5 bad.
The Red Sox were smoked by the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-3, as they opened what could be seen as their last chance to reignite their fading playoff hopes.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Jays responded with eight runs of their own in the top of the third to put the game away.
Josh Winckowski lasted just 2.2 innings, charged with six runs. Austin Davis, the first of many Red Sox relievers parading in from the bullpen, was charged with another two.
Toronto has won 11 of the first 14 meetings between the teams and have outscored the Sox by more than two-to-one, 91-45.
