PREGAME NOTES:
The Red Sox did receive some encouraging news on the injury front on Wednesday, as the team announced that X-rays for both Trevor Story and Matt Strahm were both negative. Both Story and Strahm left Tuesday’s loss to the Rays after suffering hand and wrist contusions, respectively. Story could be back in the lineup at some point during Boston’s road series against the Yankees this weekend. Jeter Downs will slot into the lineup in place of Downs.
After serving as the DH during Boston’s loss against the Rays on Tuesday, Rafael Devers will be back at third base for tonight’s contest.
The Red Sox have lost six of eight games and eight of their last 12 games.
Boston will need to win the final two games of this series to at least earn a split down in Tampa. So far, the Red Sox are 0-8-1 in nine series against divisional opponents this season.
