Final A's 4, Red Sox 3

Trailing since the third inning, the Red Sox found themselves trudging uphill all afternoon before coming up short against the Oakland A's, 4-3.

The win was Oakland's first in six tries against the Sox this season as they avoided the ignominy of being swept in the season series to the Sox.

Trevor Story misplayed a ball in shallow center field in the third, leading to three runs for the A's. An error by Rafael Devers led to the fourth Oakland run in the sixth.

Meanwhile, the Sox squandered chance after chance, and finished 1-for-14 with runners in scoring chances. They broke through with two unearned runs of their own in the eighth, but also left two runners on base, and a total of 13 for the game.
