It was a grind from the beginning to the final out, but the Red Sox managed to hold off the Seattle Mariners for a 4-3 victory in the series opener between the teams.
Tanner Houck got Adam Frazier to line out directly at second baseman Trevor Story with the potential tying run at third and the potential winning run on second to close it out.
The Sox got solo homer from J.D. Martinez and Bobby Dalbec among their six hits.
Boston used five relievers, who tossed a combined 4.2 innings and allowed just one run.
