Final: Angels 5, Red Sox 4 -- Sox win streak halted at three
Rain robbed fans at Fenway the chance to see more of Shohei Ohtani on the mound, but it was a more familiar face, Hunter Renfroe, who helped guide the Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Red Sox.
Renfroe blasted a three-run homer as part of a four-run first inning. The Angels raced to a 5-1 lead in the second, then held off the Sox, who saw their bid for a series sweep thwarted and their winning streak snapped at three.
Brayan Bello was charged with all five runs in 2.2 innings before a rain delay of nearly 90 minutes precluded his -- and Ohtani's -- return.
Kutter Crawford was brilliant in relief, allowing one hit 6.1 shutout innings. But the Sox offense, which managed a run in the first and two more in the seventh, wasted too many other opportunities and finished the game with the potential tying run in scoring position and potential winning run on first.
