Final: Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 2 - Red Sox lose first game of series against Blue Jays struggling to get on base
The Red Sox fall to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 losing the first game of the series. Boston couldn't get much going at the plate, only recording five hits against Jose Berrios and company.
The Blue Jays got on the board first scoring 2 runs in the 3rd inning, but the Red Sox were able to cut the lead in the same inning off a sac fly from Rafael Devers.
Toronto added onto their lead in the 5th and 7th innings, bringing the game to a 5-1 score.
In an effort to tie the game in the 8th inning, Triston Casas drove in the second run of the game for Boston, but couldn't drive in anymore runs.
Toronto starter pitched a great game against the Red Sox, pitching 7 innings and allowing only 1 run.
Compared to Red Sox starter Richard Fitts, the righty threw 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, struggling with command that resulted in multiple times in which the Blue Jays loaded the bases.
Overall, Toronto had better hits and made contact more often. Compared to the Red Sox, they struggled dealing with the raw weather in the game which resulted in a couple fielding miscues.
The Red Sox will continue their series tomorrow. First pitch will again be at 6:45 and Garrett Crochet will get the start.
