Final: Orioles 10, Red Sox 9

Talk about a bad first impression.

Issuing nine walks, Red Sox pitchers made the Baltimore Orioles' job easier in a 10-9 loss on Opening Day. The nine walks tied a franchise record for the most in a season opener. The last time they walked that many in the first game was 1966.

The Orioles erupted for four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth, as Zack Kelly and Ryan Brasier, in relief of starter Corey Kluber, imploded. Brasier had a particularly poor inning, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks, a wild pitch and a hit batsman, to say nothing of two stolen bases allowed. The bullpen was charged with five runs allowed in 5.2 innings.

The Red Sox rallied some in the late innings with two in the sixth and three more in the eighth, then had the potential tying run at the plate with no out in the ninth but could pull no closer than a run as Adam Duvall fanned with Masataka Yoshida at second base.
