Final: Angels 5, Red Sox 2
The Red Sox' seven-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Thursday night, stopped in its tracks by Shohei Ohtani, with some help from Andrew Velazquez.
The Los Angeles Angels, snapping a franchise-record 14-game losing streak, got seven one-run innings and a two-run homer from Ohtani. Velazquez provided the winning blow with a three-run homer off Hirokazu Sawamura in the sixth inning.
The Sox got a run in the fifth on a a sacrifice fly from Bobby Dalbec and another on a run-scoring single from Alex Verdugo in the eighth. But they otherwise failed to capitalize on some scoring chances, going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Ohtani allowed just four hits in seven innings, and helped himself with a two-run homer off Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta.
