FINAL: Rays 8, Red Sox 6 (11) - Tampa walks it off in back-and-forth affair with Boston

Brandon Lowe crushed a three-run walk-off home run off Kenley Jansen to give the Rays an 8-6 win over the Red Sox in 11 innings. It was Jansen's first blown save on the road this season in his first time pitching three games in a row all season. Boston took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th after Lowe bobbled a popup behind second base. With the loss, the Sox fall to 1-5 in extra innings games this season and remain 4.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot with 23 games left. Boston clawed back from being down 3-0 and 5-2 to force extra innings.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox pulled 4.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the American League with 24 games left in the regular season after a 7-3 win against the Rays in Monday's series opener, ending a 13-game winless streak at the Trop. 

Boston has won three straight with a plus-12 run differential after previously dropping six in a row with a minus-29 differential. 

Tampa has dropped three of four after a four-game winning streak as part of eight wins in nine games. They hold the first AL Wild Card spot, sitting 3.5 back of Baltimore for first place in the division. 

Crawford is making his 19th start and 27th appearance of the season and his third career start and sixth appearance against Tampa. He is previously 1-0 with a 2.21 ERA. This season he has a 3.00 ERA in one start and two appearances against the Rays. His last time out, he gave up six runs (earned) on seven hits and one walk with one K in last Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Astros at Fenway. 

Effin is tied for the AL lead in wins. He will make his third career start and appearance against the Red Sox with the previous two coming in 2020. He holds a 7.00 ERA against Boston. He went 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with four strikeouts in last Wednesday's 3-0 win at Miami in extras last time out.
