Final: Red Sox 4, Marlins 2 - Seigler records RBI triple in 9th inning, Marlins strand 14 runners on base

The Boston Red Sox extend their win streak to four games with a 4-2 victory against the Miami Marlins.

Tonight, the Marlins managed to put more runners on base, but the Red Sox executed the better at-bats to secure the win. In a 2-2 game in the ninth inning, Anthony Seigler brought home the game-winning run with an RBI triple down right field for Boston's first and only lead.

It was a low scoring game for the majority of the contest. Both Ranger Suarez and Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara allowed one earned run, but Suarez faced more turbulence during his five-inning start.

Suarez started the second inning erratically. The lefty hit two batters and walked one to load the bases with no outs, and the Marlins took a one run lead with a sac fly RBI from Otto Lopez. 

Alcantara allowed two hits through his first four innings, but the Red Sox broke through with an RBI double in the fifth inning from Mickey Gasper. 

Suarez finished his start allowing four hits and four walks, and Brayan Bello took over for a bulk relief appearance. After a 1-2-3 sixth inning, Bello allowed a double and two walks to load the bases. And with one out, Xavier Edwards poked an RBI single to right field to regain Miami's lead. 

The Marlins bullpen took over in the eighth, and the Red Sox earned some luck to get their second run of the game. Wilyer Abreu lead off the inning with a double to right field and advanced to third base on a fly ball from Adley Rutschman.  The right fielder then scored the tying run on a wild pitch from Josh Ekness.

Erik Miller came in for the eighth inning and got the Red Sox out of another scary situation. The Marlins put runners on the corners with one out, and the Red Sox tagged out the lead runner at third base who attempted to run home. Miller struck out Kyle Stowers to complete his scoreless outing.

The Red Sox then put together their strongest offensive inning when it mattered most. Pete Fairbanks came into the game in the ninth, but after walking his first batter, Miami's reliever left the game with an apparent injury. Miami then brought in Tyler Zuber, and he allowed a sharp right field triple to Seigler to give the Red Sox the lead. Nick Sogard extended Boston's lead in the next at-bat with an RBI single to right to cap off Boston's best inning.

Aroldis Chapman came into the game and picked up his second consecutive save to secure an improbable victory for the Red Sox.

Despite both teams recording the same amount of hits, the Red Sox tallied more extra base hits to set them over the edge. Boston also played key defense behind its pitching which helped get them strand 14 total runners on base.

The Red Sox will continue their series with the Marlins tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. with Payton Tolle on the mound.

Trevor Story will be re-evaluated after Tuesday's game with the possibility of joining the Red Sox on Wednesday. Roman Anthony and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be re-evaluated on Thursday.
