Final: Red Sox 5, Arizona Diamondbacks 7 - Diamondbacks come back against Red Sox after being down 4 runs to complete the series sweep

Trevor's Game Notes:

Lost Lead: The Arizona Diamondbacks completed the sweep against the Boston Red Sox 7-5 depite being down 4-0 going into the 5th inning. Red Sox Starter Tanner Houck cruised through the first 4 innings of the game, allowing minimal baserunners and getting consecutive double plays from his infield in consecutive innings. However, Houck wasn't able to rely on his infield the entier game, as the 2024 all-star ran into some trouble in the 5th inning loading the bases with no outs. Arizona would take advantage of this opportunity scoring 3 runs that brought the contest to a 1-run game. Houck took the mound again in the 6th inning where he allowed a 3-run home run to Eugenio Suarez that gave Arizona a 6-4 lead. During this span, Houck walked 4 batters, completely losing control of the strike zone in what would be his final 2 innings of the game. The Red Sox weren't able to make any sort of comeback, going cold at the plate against Arizona's bullpen. Tyler O'Neill's 9th inning home run off Closer Justin Martinez was the only run Boston scored after the 4th inning. 

Historic Home Run: The best inning for Boston came in the 4th inning where the Red Sox scored 3 runs off Diamonback's Starter Merrill Kelly. With two runners on base, Rafael Devers scortched his 200th career home run to center field that gave Boston a 3-run lead against Arizona. 

After Devers, Masataka Yoshida lined a hit deep into right field but was tagged out after attempting to convert his hit from a double into a triple. Connor Wong also got a double in this inning, yet the game stayed at 4-0. After this rough inning, Kelly managed to stay strong pitching two more innings and receiving the win in today's contest.

The Red Sox will take on the Blue Jays tomorrow at Fenway starting with a double-header make up game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Danny Jansen will make history in the 2:05 game becoming the first player ever to play for two teams in the same game.

Tyler O’Neill is back in Red Sox lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks after sitting the past two games withleft fourth finger inflammation.

Red Sox reliever Justin Slaten (right elbow inflammation) struggled to throw strikes in his first rehab outing Friday for Double-A Portland per Chris Smith of MassLive. He recorded just one out on a strikeout. He allowed one run, one hit (single) and one walk throwing 17 pitches. 

Boston hitters are a combined 7-for-36 (.194 batting average) with a homer, two doubles, three walks and 16 strikeouts against Merrill Kelly. O’Neill is 3-for-16 with a homer, double and four RBIs vs. the righty.
