Final: Red Sox 7, Reds 4 - Red Sox finish 6 game road trip with victory in Cincinnati taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

(USA Today Sports)

Trevor's Game Notes:

Calls to the Pen: The Red Sox used 7 pitchers in today's game with Zack Kelly as the opener. The bullpen combined to allow 4 runs (Bernardino allowed 1, Keller allowed 3) with Greg Weissert picking up the win and Kenley Jansen picking up the save. A great series effort from Boston's bullpen.

Staying Hot: Jarren Duran and Connor Wong both extended their hit streaks to 13 games. Duran recorded 3 hits with 2 RBI's while Wong hit a 2-run home run in the 4th inning off Reds' starter Nick Lodolo.

Refsnyder also hit a 2-run home run in the 6th inning to give the Red Sox 7 runs in total. Boston's 3 runs that inning helped give them enough insurance to come away with the win after the Reds scored 3 runs in the same inning.

The Red Sox will return home for a 3-game series against Toronto starting Monday.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox defeated the Reds Saturday in a comeback effort. After being down 3-2 going into the 8th inning, Boston would tie the game off a pinch hit RBI single from Rob Refsnyder. They would then take the lead that same inning from a sac fly by Rafael Devers. Kenley Jansen would close the game in the 9th inning with help from a highlight real defensive play from Jarren Duran, who stole a home run away from Stuart Fairchild.

Zack Kelly will start against the Reds in the series finale. The righty will serve as an opener. Expect a lot of bullpen arms to take over in this game.

Kelly has been effective for Boston this year. He has made 18 relief appearances and one start. He has a 1.75 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 25 ⅔ innings. Opponents have batted only .125 against him. He opened against the White Sox in Chicago on June 9. He went 2 scoreless and hitless innings. He allowed two walks and struck out three.

The Red Sox will go with left-handed hitting Dominic Smith as the starting first baseman against Reds lefty starter Nick Lodolo.

Romy Gonzalez, a right-handed hitter, played three innings at first base Saturday after pinch hitting. Manager Alex Cora named Gonzalez and potentially Connor Wong as right-handed hitting first base options. Gonzalez will play second base Sunday. Struggling left-handed hitting DH Masataka Yoshida is not in the lineup. Rob Refsnyder will serve as the DH.
