Final: Red Sox 0, Marlins 4 - Red Sox get shut out against Marlins

The Boston Red Sox go scoreless in 4-0 game against the Miami Marlins.

It was a quiet night at the plate for the Red Sox, who only earned five singles. Additionally, the Red Sox recorded four errors in the absence of Willson Conteras and Adley Rutschman. 

Sonny Gray picked up the loss despite allowing two earned runs. The veteran pitcher gave up his two runs in the first two innings.

Nick Sogard picked up an error in the first inning which allowed Kyle Stowers to advance to third base, and in the following at-bat, Heriberto Hernández drove in the game's first run.

Connor Wong then recorded an error in the second, missing on a throw to second base which allowed Otto Lopez to score. Both Wong and Sogard picked up two errors tonight.

Despite the defensive miscues, Gray allowed seven hit and one walk, ending his night after five innings. Wyatt Olds was on the mound for Miami's other two runs. None were earned due to the errors by Wong and Sogard.

The Red Sox have the off day tomorrow, but they start a four-game weekend series with the New York Yankees in the Bronx on Friday. First pitch for Friday's game will be at 7:15 p.m.

Sonny Gray looks to pick up his 17th win of the season as the Red Sox wrap up their series against the Miami Marlins.

Adley Rutschman is not in the Red Sox lineup for a second straight game as he deals with elbow inflammation.

Willson Contreras is also out of the lineup. Nick Sogard takes his place at first base. Contreras has been dealing with soreness in his legs. “With just various leg things that he’s dealt with, being able to give him a day today plus tomorrow — work with the medical staff today and try to get his legs in the best place possible prior to New York — was important as well,” Interim Manager Chad Tracy said.

Roman Anthony on his injury rehab: “I know there’s a lot of noise,” Anthony said. “A lot of people have opinions of me or what I do, or my injury or whatever it may be. Everyone has a phone. Everyone has access to say what they want to say, whether it’s true or not. So I stay away from all of it. My ultimate goal was to get out here and to play baseball.”
