FOUR THINGS I’M LOOKING FOR

1. Preseason extended: Yes, this is the regular season, so it counts in the standings, but I’m not trying to read too much into every little thing Joe Mazzulla does. There's a lot he didn’t get to see in the preseason, so the early-season combinations could be a bit haphazard. We’re very much still in experimentation-mode. 

2. Jayson Tatum’s full game: We’ll get to see him play 30-plus minutes and the Knicks present some interesting matchups that could allow us to see the full bag from Tatum. I want to see how much he goes into the post, what he does when he faces up, and how he interacts with the new guys. Which brings me to …

3. Kristaps Porzingis the game-changer: We saw so little of what Porzingis can do with Tatum and Jaylen Brown because he only got a few rotations with those guys. Let’s see just how much he unlocks and how easily he gets his shots. Also, let’s find out how comfortable he is against a tough Knicks starting five that can give him some troubles with their physicality.

4. Sticking to the plan: Saving the best for last, I want to see all this talk from the preseason backed up with a business-like exhibition of their best habits. The line is at -4 but if these guys can come out with the right focus and stick to the things Mazzulla has laid out for them, they could win by 14.
