Final: Jazz 118, Celtics 117 - Second chance points kill Boston
Game 72: Celtics (-4) at Utah Jazz, 9:00 p.m., Vivint Arena, NBCS Boston
Injuries:
Boston: OUT- Danilo Gallinari, Robert Williams (hamstring), Payton Pritchard (heel), Marcus Smart (hip), Al Horford (back),
Utah: OUT- Collin Sexton (hamstring)
QUESTIONABLE- Jordan Clarkson (finger)
Jazz Probable Starters: Talen Horton-Tucker, Ochai Agbaji, Walker Kessler, Lauri Markkanen, Kelly Olynyk
Refs: Mark Lindsay (#29), Kevin Cutler (#34), Mousa Dagher (#28)
A little something about this game: The Jazz have lost five of seven. Lauri Markannen is averaging 25.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, and he’s scored at least 30 in three of his last four games. Kris Dunn, who was briefly with the Celtics organization, has signed with the Jazz for the rest of the season after scoring double digits in his first seven appearances with Utah. He’s averaging 11.6 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.8 rebounds through nine games.
Things I’m looking for:
- Strong start, strong finish: This is a tough situation for the Celtics. A back-to-back, in altitude, and losing an hour due to the time zone change is a lot to overcome. Teams in this situation tend to start strong and fade. The question for the Celtics in this game is whether they can overcome the fatigue and finish what they started.
- Fresh legs: Malcolm Brogdon sat out yesterday’s win, so he’ll be fresh. Mike Muscala will likely get some time with Horford out, so he’ll have some energy. Even Grant Williams should be alright even though he played yesterday because of all the time he’s missed. If they can come through during any rough patches, then the Celtics might be able to build a lead.
- Jazz tanking: Utah’s race to the bottom might help counteract whatever fatigue the Celtics are feeling.
Follow along below or in the comments during the game, chime in, and let’s have fun.
