PREGAME NOTES
As expected, Brandon Carlo will not play Monday after exiting Saturday’s win over Arizona due to an upper-body injury. However, Jim Montgomery noted on Sunday that he doesn’t expect the right-shot defenseman to be out long term. "We're hopeful. But he's still not ready to play," Montgomery said of Carlo. "There's gonna be no rush, that's for sure. Just like there's no rush for Grizzy or Marchy or when Mac starts skating with the team. We're gonna do it when it's right for them because in the long term, that's what's right for the Bruins."
With Carlo sidelined, the Bruins called up Dan Renouf — with the 28-year-old defenseman expected to slot in on the right side and play next to Jakub Zboril on Boston’s third D pair. "Signing here, I wanted to play for the Bruins. I've never played at the Garden. I'm excited. Hopefully I can help the boys get a win tonight," Renouf said. "I've been here before [at the NHL level]. I've played some games up and I kind of know what I've got to do. Just enjoying every day and making sure I make the most of this opportunity."
With Renouf in the lineup, the Bruins will have five left shots on the back end, with Connor Clifton standing as the lone right shot. "Like I've always said, you like having people on their strong side, it's easier to see all through the whole ice, right? Your body's turned to receive a pass, you're cutting yourself up from the easiest pass, which is right up north,” Montgomery said. "So it provides its challenges, but we think it's the right D-core to help us win tonight."
Linus Ullmark is expected to get the start in net for Boston.
On Monday, Jake DeBrusk skated for the first time since he suffered an upper-body injury in the B's season opener in Washington. Montgomery said on Sunday that he doesn’t expect DeBrusk to be out “more than 10 days”.
Charlie McAvoy practiced in a red, non-contact sweater on Monday. Matt Grzelcyk, still practicing in a full-contact sweater, could be in play to make his season debut on Saturday against the Wild.
