Final: Avalanche 4, Bruins 1 - MacKinnon scores two goals, Bruins lose third straight game
After winning three consecutive games to start the season, the Boston Bruins are now on a three-game losing streak with a 4-1 loss against the Colorado Avalanche.
Tonight's game wasn't competitive. The Avalanche outshot the Bruins 38-14 and played in Boston's defensive zone the majority of this game. Boston simply couldn't do anything on offense.
The Bruins were ironically the first team to score in this game. Playing in his first game of the season, John Beecher scored on set-up pass from Charlie McAvoy in the early minutes of the first period.

However, the Avalanche responded quickly and scored two goals of their own. Nathan MacKinnon put Colorado on the board after intercepting a pass in the neutral zone and backhanding a shot past Jeremy Swayman.

Three minutes later, the Avalanche won a draw in Boston's defensive zone, and Josh Manson fired a one-timer to give Colorado the lead.

Neither team scored in the second period, but the Avalanche pressured Boston the entire 20 minutes. The Bruins recorded several penalties in this time, and Colorado spent a good majority firing shots at Swayman. Luckily, Swayman stayed tall and kept the Bruins within one goal.
In the third period, the Bruins failed to generate offense. MacKinnon scored his second goal of the game five minutes into the period, and the Bruins stayed in their defensive zone struggling to produce shots against Scott Wedgewood.

With four minutes remaining in the game, Swayman got pulled and the Avalanche scored the empty net goal to seal the win.
This was a disappointing game for the Bruins. They only lost by three goals, but the margin felt much larger. Undisciplined penalties and poor passing were elements of the game the Bruins failed in.
Beecher, a fourth line forward who scored three goals all of last year, was the highlight on offense for the Bruins, and it goes to show how lackluster tonight was.
The Bruins will now travel to Utah to take on the Mammoth. Puck drop will take place at 7 p.m.
