FINAL: Bruins 4 at Red Wings 5 B's give up three goals in thrid period
The Bruins dropped their first game of the season 4-3 on the road to the Detroit Red Wings Saturday night.
The difference in the game was Boston giving up thee unanswered goals in less than four minutes in the third period. The Bruins committed eight penalties which also played a big factor in the loss tonight.
"It's hockey. Sometimes you have the bounces, sometimes you don't," Linus Ullmark told reporters after the game.

The first period was dominated by Boston as the Bruins performed well at full strength and took a 1-0 5:19 into the first period as James Van Riemsdyk scored his fourth goal on the year. Matt Poitras made it 2-0 Boston at the 10:28 mark. Detroit answered back to cut the lead in half when Lucas Raymond scored his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-1.

The Bruins started off the second period very well but ended the period poorly. Boston was outshot 17-9 in the second period and gave up a tying goal to Jake Walman to make it 2-2. Despite all of that, the B's still made it to the locker room with a 3-2 lead thanks to a goal by Charlie Coyle at the 13:41 mark of the second period.

The third period was when everything fell apart for the Bruins as they gave up three unanswered goals. It started with Dylan Larkin scoring his fifth goal of he season 5:50 into the third period to tie it at three. It was followed by David Perron scoring to make it 4-3 Detroit at the 8:56 mark in the third period. The difference in the game came from an Andrew Copp goal at the 10:34 mark in the third to make it 5-3 Red Wings. David Pastrnak answered at the 14:11 mark in the third to make it 5-4, but it was not enough.

The Bruins will continue their road trip in Dallas on Monday when they face the Stars with puck drop set for 8 p.m. ET.

PREGAME NOTES
The Bruins visit the Detroit Red Wings in an Original Six matchup tonight at 7:00 p.m. Boston enters tonight with a 9-0-1 record on the season.
Jim Montgomery told reporters this morning that James Van Riemsdyk will move up to left wing as Pavel Zacha goes to center and David Pastrnak is on the right side. Matt Poitras will be in the center of Morgan Geekie and Trent Frederic.
Pastrnak has been playing well lately, recording eight goal and six assists which is good for 14 points.
The Red Wings enter tonight coming off a 2-0 loss to the Florida Panthers Thursday night and has a 6-4-1 record on the season.
Dylan Larken leads Detroit with 15 points recording four goals and 11 assists on the year. Larken ranks with Alex DeBrincat among the NHL's top scorers, combining for 28 points in 11 games.
