FINAL: Kraken 4, Bruins 3 (SO)- Bruins blow third period lead and fall in a shootout

The Bruins went to overtime for a sixth straight game and fell by a score of 4-3 in a shootout to the Seattle Kraken on Monday night. This came after Boston blew a 2-1 lead in the third period. Vince Dunn scored for Seattle to tie the game at two on a snap shot that came from a Andre Burakovsky pass off a face-off from the top of the left circle. 

Morgan Geekie appeared to have scored later to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead but was overturned due to goaltender interference. Oliver Bjorkstrand came back on the other end to give Seattle a 3-2 lead by deflecting a one-timer from Will Borgen that got past Linus Ullmark. 

Charlie Coyle tied it at three on the power play at the 17:08 mark of the third period as he redirected David Pastrnak's shot from the right circle. 

After a scoreless overtime, the Bruins fell in a shootout that saw the Bruins not score a single goal. Pastrnak was the last Bruin to go that ended the game. Kailer Yamamoto scored the lone goal for the Kraken in the shootout. 

I thought that the Bruins got off to a great start int he first period as they skated well and had good looks at the net. Ullmark had a terrible error in the second period trying to clear the puck with went straight to Jordan Eberle to tie it at one. Pastrnak had two goals in this game.

 The turning point tonight was in the third period when Boston laid off with the energy and played soft. It has become a common theme this season where the Bruins fail to close out close games. Seattle was living in Boston's zone in both he third period as well as overtime. 

“We played a great game, but then in the third period we kind of let them push,” Pastrnak said after the game. “You must expect good teams will make a push and refocus. It took us until almost too late in the third period to make the push back,” Pastrnak continued.  

“Even though we’re in the final home stretch, we have to continue to teach, because we didn’t have a lot of practice time,” Boston coach Jim Montgomery said. “We didn’t practice once on this trip. The guys have got to focus and apply the good habits and details that will give us opportunities and results,” Jim Montgomery talked about after the game.

The Bruins will return to TD Garden on Thursday night to face the Las Vegas Golden Knights at 7 p.m.

PREGAME NOTES
The Bruins conclude their four-game Western Conference road trip in Seattle on Monday night to face the Kraken at 10 p.m. ET. Derek Forbort will be a healthy scratch tonight after missing a team meeting on Monday morning. Tonight marks the return of former Seattle Kraken  player Morgan Geekie who is only one point away from a career-high for points and two assists shy of a personal season-high. Anthony Richard will be skating on Boston's top line tonight alongside Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle. 

“It doesn’t change anything,”  Richard told reporters. “I talked to Marchy before practice and they’re looking to bring more speed and more tenacity on the forecheck on their line, create some O-zone time by forechecking harder…for me, they put me out there to bring that same energy and mentality that was working on the third or fourth line," Richard continued. Jim Montgomery told reporters that he has been impressed with Richard's speed leading to turnovers as well as Jesper Boqvist and Justin Brazeau's play. We’ve tried a lot of players there and we know a couple players that work. But all three players that were on the fourth line last game, Boqvist line with Brazeau, all have been playing really well. That’s why we sprinkled them around, to give more energy to every line," Montgomery explained. 

The Bruins face a Seattle team that they fell to by a score of 4-1 at TD Garden back on February 15th. However, since that time Seattle has gone 1-1-1 and is currently in the middle of a six-game homestand. Jared McCann leads the squad with 25 goals and 46 points and enters tonight on a seven-game point streak.
