FINAL: Golden Knights 2 , Bruins 1 (OT) - Communication breaks down :45 into OT

The Bruins fell to the Las Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 in overtime on Thursday night. Boston still receives a point and remains in first place in the Atlantic Division. 

The first two periods ended scoreless with both teams having multiple scoring chances. However, both Jeremy Swayman and Logan Thompson standing on their heads. One of the big chances for Boston was Jake DeBrusk having a great opportunity in front of the net in the first period. 

It wasn’t until the 7:01 mark in the third period when the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jack Eichel. The Bruins tied it at one at the 12:18 mark thanks to a Matt Grzelcyk goal. 

Las Vegas won in overtime as Alex Pietrangelo scored :45 in on what appeared to be a mental lapse by Boston. 

Swayman finished the night with 23 saves in net for the Bruins. 

Boston will wrap up their four-game Western Conference trip in St. Louis on Saturday night to face the Blues at 8 p.m. ET.

PREGAME NOTES
The Bruins continue their Western Conference road trip in Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights at 10 p.m. ET. Jim Montgomery told reporters this morning that Brandon Carlo, Matt Poitras and Linus Ullmark are day-to-day and will not play tonight. Boston's forward group will include Jesper Boqvist playing on the left side of Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak. Morgan Geekie will center Danton Heinen and Trent Frederic, while James Van Riemsdyk will move to the fourth line with Johnny Beecher and Jakub Lauko, who comes in for Oskar Steen. 

With Ullmark day-to-day, the Bruins recalled Brandon Bussi from Providence and will backup Swayman tonight. 

Boston faces a Las Vegas team that is coming off a 3-0 loss at Colorado on Wednesday night. The Golden Knights sit in second place in the Pacific Division with 51 points, six back of Vancouver of the top spot. Las Vegas started the season going 11-1-0, but are 12-13-4 since, which includes going 3-7-0 in the last 10 games. Jack Eichel, a North Chelmsford, Massachusetts native, leads the Golden Knights with 18 goals and 42 points on the season. Vegas has been hit by injuries as starting goaltender Adin Hill remains out, leaving Logan Thompson to start in net tonight. 

“I think they’re a high-volume shooting team that seems to get their offense going in this rink. It plays really fast,”  Kevin Shattenkirk told reporters this morning. “We know that we’re gonna play against a pretty well-structured team and we’re gonna have to commit to doing the same thing, maybe putting pucks low and winning the forecheck battle and getting our chances there, but I’m sure it’s gonna be a tight game,” Shattenkirk continued.

Boston will be facing former head coach Bruce Cassidy who is now at the helm of Las Vegas in his second season.
