FINAL: Bruins 3, at Blackhawks 0 - Poitras scores 3rd goal in last two games

The Bruins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season which ties the 1937-38 Bruins team record. 

The first period was highlighted by a goal by 18-year-old Blackhawks' fan favorite Connor Bedard that was waved off due to an offsides by an inch. 

The Bruins picked up the pace in the second period as they outshot Chicago 18-7. Boston took a 1-0 lead when Pavel Zacha scored his first goal of the season 3:50 into the second period. 

The third period was highlighted by Matt Poitras scoring his third goal in the last two games to make it 2-0 Bruins. Trent Frederic scored :56 after Poitras to make it 3-0 Boston. 

"I felt like I got better and better as [the road trip] went along. That helps me feel better on the ice and shift by shift. Confidence level is pretty high," Poitras told the media after the game.

Jakub Lauko left the game in the third period and did not return after taking a skate from Jason Dickinson straight to the face. While the left side of his face was red after the game, he was seen smiling in the locker room. Jim Montgomery told reporters after the game that Lauko is good and will be fine.

Jeremy Swayman recorded his first shutout in net as he finished with 23 saves. 

"Loved the results, loved our goaltending. Starting to see our team identity build...you're starting to see us be a heavy, grinding team, which is I think what we're gonna have to be," Jim Montgomery told reporters after the game. 

The Bruins will be back in action on Thursday at TD Garden to face off with the Anaheim Ducks with puck drop set for 7 p.m.

PREGAME NOTES

- Milan Lucic will not suit up for the Bruins tonight as he continues to recover from taking a puck off the leg in Los Angeles last Saturday night. Lucic left the morning skate early today and will miss his second straight game. 

“Not ready to go yet, still tender,” Jim Montgomery told reporters this morning. 

- Boston will look to improve to 6-0-0, which would tie the 1937-38 Bruins team record. 

- Derek Forbort re-enters the lineup tonight alongside Kevin Shattenkirk after missing their game Sunday at Anaheim. 

- The Bruins will be facing a Blackhawks team that has gone 1-3-0 since matching up with them on opening night at TD Garden. The Bruins will be facing their former teammates Nick Foligno and Ryan Donato. Both Foligno and Donato each have a goal and two assists in six games. Former Bruin Taylor Hall is considered week-to-week after reaggravating his shoulder which he suffered against Boston on October 11th. 

Foligno will go up to the Blackhawks' top line with Hall out joining Connor Bedard and Tyler Johnson. 

- The Blackhawks have earned points in four of their last seven games against Boston, going 2-3-2. Chicago defeated the Bruins on March 14, 2023 in a 6-3 victory when they last met at the United Center and have earned points in their last three home games against Boston (1-0-2).
