PREGAME NOTES

Wednesday is the final game before some time off, including All-Star weekend, before Boston’s next game on Feb. 11. 

It’s also the penultimate meeting between the Bruins and the Maple Leafs before the regular season series finale on April 6. So far, Boston is 1-1-0 against Toronto on the year, and each is 6-3-1 in their previous 10 games. The last time out against the Leafs on Jan. 14 saw the Bruins win, 4-3, in a spirited, back-and-forth affair at TD Garden, thanks to Matt Grzelcyk’s late go-ahead goal. 

The Bruins are looking to snap their first losing streak of the season, dropping three straight. Boston fell at Carolina, 4-1, on Sunday to finish with a 10-3-1 record in January.

Lauko and Lettieri were each recalled from Providence of the AHL on Monday. Lauko will play, head coach Jim Montgomery said Tuesday. He has a goal and an assist in seven games with Boston earlier this season. Lettieri was injured during Monday’s practice and did not travel to Toronto. Montgomery did not officially name a starter after both goaltenders participated in the optional morning skate.

Samsonov is expected to make his seventh straight start for the Leafs, who won, 5-1, at home over the Washington Capitals on Sunday. Matthews will miss his third game after Toronto announced on Jan. 27 he would miss a minimum of three weeks with a knee sprain.
