PREGAME NOTES

Boston needs just one more point to clinch a playoff spot, missing a chance Thursday after losing 3-2 to Ottawa, a non-playoff team. 

After missing Thursday's game against Ottawa with an undisclosed injury, Brandon Carlo was back on the ice for practice on Friday morning and could be in the lineup on Saturday afternoon.  "We'll see how he is in the morning," Bruce Cassidy said. "But practiced today, so that's a good sign."

Linus Ullmark did not take part in practice after leaving Thursday night's game following the first period. The netminder took a shot to the helmet and reported to team trainers that he was not feeling well, per Cassidy. With Ullmark day-to-day, Jeremy Swayman will get the start against the Penguins, with Troy Grosenick up from Providence to back-up.

David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm skated on their own before Friday's practice at Warrior Ice Arena, but aren’t expected back on Saturday.

Trent Frederic will be back in the lineup on Saturday following a healthy scratch on Thursday night. Tomas Nosek will be the odd man out up front — with Cassidy keeping that fourth line of Nick Foligno, Marc McLaughlin, and Curtis Lazar intact.

Evgeni Malkin will miss Saturday's game as he serves the third game of a four-game suspension for a cross-checking incident. The Penguins also noted on Friday that Tristan Jarry is being evaluated for a lower-body injury and will not play Saturday. Casey DeSmith is expected to start.
