Sean McAdam

SEAN McADAM was born in Chelmsford, MA and has lived in New England his entire life. He currently lives in Littleton, MA.

Education: Sean graduated from Chelmsford High School and is a member of the Chelmsford High Hall of Fame. He attended Providence College, from where he graduated with a B.A. in political science. While at PC, he worked at the campus radio station, WDOM.

Career: Sean’s first job came at WEAN Radio in Providence, where he served as a producer, anchor, reporter and occasional talk show host. In 1985, he went to work at The Providence Journal, where, for the first four years, he covered high school sports, the Bruins and Patriots and wrote a media column. In 1989, he was put on the Red Sox beat, where he remained until he left the Journal in 2008. During his time at the Journal, he established himself as one of the premier baseball writers in New England, gaining further exposure on The Score (a sports talk station in Providence), WEEI Radio in Boston, BZ-TV/Channel 4 in Boston. He also became a regular contributor to ESPN.com, writing weekly columns for a period of a dozen years. During his career at the Journal, he was twice named Rhode Island Sportswriter of the Year.

In 2008, Sean left the Journal to go to the Boston Herald. He began contributing to Fox Sports as a weekly columnist. In 2009, he was joined Comcast SportsNet New England, where he worked from 2009 through the end of 2016. He now is a frequent contributor to 98.5/The Sports Hub in Boston.

Personal: Sean lives in Littleton, MA., with his wife, Sue. He is the proud father of Elizabeth Aliano and Conor McAdam, and proud stepfather to Amanda Nawoichik and Leah Nawoichik. His passions include music, reading, travel and family.

Getting to know Sean...

Fondest sports memory growing up: Attending his first Red Sox game, with his father, during the magical 1967 Impossible Dream season. Two years later, attending his first Bruins game, also with his father, during the Stanley Cup season of 1969-70.

Sports memory you'd like a mulligan on: In the span of one academic year while at Providence College, the Red Sox lost to the Yankees in the infamous Bucky Dent playoff game, and, seven months later, the Bruins lost to the Canadiens in the Forum, thanks to the infamous too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty. That was a miserable year.

The snapshot moment you love as a reporter: In general, the informality of batting practice, with the ability to talk to players and coaches before a game. In specificity, the feeling that comes with knowing you have a story that no one else has – nothing beats that rush of adrenaline.

Favorite Boston sports moment you witnessed: Covering the 2004 post-season as the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years. A close second would be covering Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans, where the Patriots won their first Super Bowl.

On a rare day off, you'll find him: On the beach in Ogunquit ME; attending a concert; traveling to the New York/New Jersey area to visit his son and/or daughter.
