Bedard: 5 key plays to a victory - Doubs and Douglas touchdowns; Spillane-Ponder sack; big Maye throws to Williams, Raridon taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Paul Johnson for BSJ)

Breaking down five key plays from the Patriots' victory over the Jets through video analysis, including Drake Maye's touchdown throws to Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas, the combo sack from Robert Spillane and Elijah Ponder that prevented a touchdown to tie the game, and two key throws from Maye to Kyle Williams and Eli Raridon.

2-10-NYJ 42 (4:18) (Shotgun) D.Maye pass deep right to R.Doubs for 42 yards, TOUCHDOWN. NE-R.Doubs was injured during the play.

Three of the Patriots' touchdowns (Doubs, Hunter Henry and Douglas) were more about busts and errors by the Jets' defense than anything else, starting with this one.

The Jets only rush three, and LB Jamien Sherwood seems to be more of a spy than anything else, so it's really a two-man rush. That gives Maye all day to throw this touchdown.

It's nothing fancy from the Patriots. Doubs run an over route (over) and A.J. Brown runs an in (under) to put the middle of the field safety into a bind. If he bites on Brown, Maye goes to Doubs. If he stays deep, Maye throws to Brown.

Despite dropping eight into coverage, the Jets' are all effed up. Two defenders cover DeMario Douglas in the flat. No one drops into the middle of the field and there's a huge hole. The safety dives on Brown not, in my opinion, because it's Brown. It's because he realizes no one is in the middle of the field and someone has to cover Brown.

I'd be interested to know why Maye doesn't throw the ball to Brown. He is wide open, and the ball really should go there. Maye sees him. Starts to throw. But doesn't. Then he looks way left to TreVeyon Henderson. Then Hunter Henry. Thanks to the lack of pass rush, Maye has 5.44 seconds to go through all five options and finally sees Doubs open, and Maye leads him well for the touchdown. Shame Doubs was injured on the play.

3-9-NYJ 9 (:20) (Shotgun) D.Maye pass short right to D.Douglas for 9 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Again, Maye has all day to throw. He probably should (and will in the future) put the ball on
