FOXBOROUGH - Practice No. 10 of 2025 is in the books; let's run down all you need to know: all the stats, 3 up/down, 1-on-1s, and odds and ends:
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Defensive coordinator Terrell Williams leaves practice after medical attention: Williams, who dealt with an undisclosed medical situation in the offseason, left practice on a cart with a trainer about 2/3rds of the way through the practice and did not return. Linebackers coach Zak Kuhr took over playcalling.
EMTs tended to Williams on the sidelines, but he did not leave with them, which is a good sign.
The Patriots just provided an update. Williams was being treated for dehydration, and he's fine. Just taking precautions due to his previous health issue.
Defense closes practice strong: It was all red zone work today and it appeared the offense had the upper hand in the early high red zone periods (Drake Maye tossed two touchdowns to TreVeyon Henderson and another to Demario Douglas; Josh Dobbs had scoring passes to Javon Baker and Efton Chism).
But the defense dominated in the spirited low red zone sessions, and closing game situation with 45 seconds left from the 25-yard line. Maye was just 2 of 10 in the final three periods, after starting 8 of 10. Dobbs 2 of 5 with 3 sacks (Anfernee Jennings 2, Isaiah Iton) in the final three periods.
Maye almost had a miraculous touchdown to Javon Baker in the back right corner of the end zone but John Streicher, acting as the referee on that sideline, ruled it incomplete.
Some lineup juggling: The Patriots just had two off days, which is normally a time for the coaching staff to reassess personnel and changes usually ensue.
With Garrett Bradbury back at practice, the starting offensive line was back together: LT Will Campbell, LG Jared Wilson, C Garrett Bradbury, RG Mike Onwenu, RT Morgan Moses. Moses did not finish practice. Not sure if that was by design or not.
Ben Brown played left guard and Cole Strange center, as it appears those two are battling for the top C/G backup on the team. It's the first time I recall Brown playing anywhere other than center. Brown was OK, but his lack of athletic ability is apparent. Strange was solid at center.
It also appeared that Kyle Dugger, whose future we discussed in our 53-man projection this morning, saw his first-team reps take a downturn in favor of rookie Craig Woodson.

ONE-ON-ONES

Decisive wins/losses:
- Cole Strange, who had two really good reps, completely shut down Isaiah Iton.
- International Player David Olajija undressed Layden Robinson.
- Jeremiah Pharms quickly went around Mekhi Butler.
- Keion White dominated Marcus Bryant and then Garrett Bradbury (White likes to work on his rushes from all over).
Campbell lost both his reps to White, although one was close. I gave him a draw against Bradyn Swinson, that might have been generous. On the first rep, Campbell got beat around the edge when he failed to land a good initial punch. Against Swinson, Campbell did land a good bunch but failed to sustain the block. Campbell's last rep against White ... White got around him, it was tough to tell if it was too deep or not. Very close but I thought White closed well.
Campbell looked good in team, for what it's worth.
"Very coachable player," Mike Vrabel said before practice. "He's been out there getting better every day. A lot of versatility in his game and I'm excited about him continuing to work and continue to improve."
PASSING FROM GIARDI
One-on-ones, low red zone. Again, there are some reps where the receiver or defender has his jersey tucked under his pads and is unidentifiable. Javon Baker had himself a three-play set with Dobbs.
Drake Maye:
- Slant to Diggs (vs. Austin)
- Boutte spins Jones
- Douglas left flat (vs. Dugger)
- Williams slant (Minor)
- Hollins drop
- Baker slant (Dial)
- Diggs left flat (Hawkins)
- Boutte slant (Jones)
- Incomplete to Douglas (Peppers)
- Douglas shakes Austin
- Hollins over Dugger, back shoulder
- Incomplete (high) to Baker
- Battle PBU on fade to Boutte
- Henry over Peppers in corner
- Diggs left flat (Schooler)
Dobbs:
- Slant to Polk (Dial)
- Webb left flat (Minor)
- Incomplete to (Jordan Polk)
- Incomplete to Jiles
- Polk slant
- Webb fade (Minor)
- Chism left flat (Bolden)
- Jiles slant (Bolden)
- Polk jump ball over (37)
- Chism return route. Well-executed (Bolden)
- Incomplete to Webb (Mapu)
- Incomplete to Jiles (off hands, Bolden)
- Polk slant (Jones)
- Henry back of end zone (Woodson)
- Minor INT
Seven-on-seven in red area
Maye:
- Stevenson on a circle route
- Boutte TD
- Henry on skinny post (over James)
- Diggs post (James)
Dobbs:
- Baker keeps feet in on Dobbs' scramble
- Back-shoulder to Baker (Minor)
- Baker slant
Maye:
- Checkdown to Stevenson
- Williams in back of the end zone. Maye stayed in pocket a long time. Probably would have had to run.
- Incomplete to Williams (Jones). Ball slightly behind WR.
- Henry all alone in right flat.
Dobbs:
- Scott wide open in left corner of end zone
- Polk crosser (Dugger)
- Dial PBU (crosser to Douglas)
TOP PLAY
Dobbs' corner fade to Chism in the back right corner of the end zone, where Chism made a great diving catch.
THREE UP
RB TreVeyeon Henderson: Had two touchdowns in team where on successive series, he dusted Robert Spillane and then Christian Elliss on wheel routes, and Henderson also had a rushing touchdown on an option play. His speed is a problem.
DT Khyiris Tonga, DE Keion White, DE Elijah Ponder: Combined to 9-0 with three decisive wins as they completely dominated. Tonga was also strong in team with a pass break up. White showed fresh legs after three days off (didn't play in the scrimmage) and was a beast going 4-0. Shoutout to Anfernee Jennings for his two sacks in teams.
CB DJ James: Just continues to make plays as he posted three pass breakups in team periods.
C Cole Strange: Easily won both his reps in 1-on-1s and appeared to have a good day all around to get himself back in the backup race. He did, however, fail to pick up a stunt that led to a Dobbs scramble.
TWO DOWN
OL Jack Conley: Lost his only 1-on-1 rep and gave up two sacks on Jennings in team. His lack of athletic ability at tackle is really showing up.
S Kyle Dugger: Saw his playing cut at the expense of Craig Woodson.
ODDS AND ENDS
- Cornerback Marcellas Dial, who was having a strong camp, appeared to sustain a series leg injury and had to be carted off the field.
- Standouts in the half-line run offense/defense drills: Milton Williams over Cole Strange, Tonga over Alec Lindstrom, Campbell over Jennings, Jennings over Demontrey Jacobs.
- Vrabel said he expects Kendrick Bourne, Charlton Davis and Christian Gonzalez to be out this week.
- Vederian Lowe is off PUP and is slowly being worked back in as the third-string left tackle. Was 2-1 in 1-on-1s and his wins were impressive.
- Both kickers went 4 for 4 from 33, 43, 49 and 54. "They both have done very well," Vrabel said before practice. "I'm sure 19-of-21 or whatever they both are, I think they've gotten better and it's a good competition and I’m glad they both got to kick in the stadium and try to get the extra points and get the end of game kicks and everything that we did. So, just trying to get the volume and try to – every day Jeremy [Springer] and Tom [Quinn] have a plan for them on how they're going to kick."
- Professional podcasters Julian Edelman, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan watched practice from the sidelines. Must be nice. Get back on the hill with the rest of the dregs!
