BSJ Game Report: Bruins 2, Blue Jackets 1 - Bruins earn franchise-best 58th win, Presidents' Trophy in OT win

Pastrnak seals come-from-behind victory in overtime: The best team in franchise history is no longer up for debate.

The Bruins secured their 58th win of the season in their 2-1 overtime victory against the Blue Jackets on Thursday at TD Garden. The win also clinched the B's the Presidents' Trophy as well as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference

"Tonight, we were by no means at the standard that we've most of the year, but what I like is how [Jakub] Lauko did that, how [Trent] Frederic didn't let our captain get abused," Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said after the game. "I thought [Columbus] played a real good game being on top of us, but we kept finding ways."

David Pastrnak had the golden goal in overtime and Tyler Bertuzzi scored during the second period to lead the B's against the last-place Blue Jackets.

Making his second consecutive start in net, Linus Ullmark was up for the task once again, finishing the night with 25 saves.

Jack Roslovic had the first goal of the game following a Columbus odd-mad rush at 8:08 of the first. A Bruins power play had just expired and the Blue Jackets skated the other way and scored to go ahead, 1-0.

The B's didn't respond until the second period when Bertuzzi scored on the man advantage. Lane Pederson caught Patrice Bergeron up high with a cross check, setting up the B's power-play goal. Pederson's penalty was reviewed for a major, but was deemed a minor penalty.

Lauko and Frederic each dropped the gloves in the second period as Lauko fought before the equalizer while Frederic squared off with Pederson afterward.

"I'd like to think that we're like that for everyone," Bergeron said. "I feel like we're a tight group and it's a pack mentality. It means a lot that [Frederic] stepped up, but I know he would've done it for anyone else."

A scoreless third period set the stage for Pastrnak's game-deciding strike in overtime as Pastrnak's 53rd of the season sealed the comeback victory.

"It's been a magical season so far," Montgomery said. "But we know the hardest part is ahead of us. We're looking forward to that grind."

TWO UP

Pastrnak keeps chugging: The Bruins star keeps filling the net despite reaching the 50-goal threshold last weekend with goals in four of his last five games. Thursday's overtime winner showcased No. 88's speed as Pastrnak raced in and around Hutchinson after a slick feed from Hampus Lindholm.

Pastrnak needs to average a goal a game the rest of the way to reach 60.

Ullmark stays sharp: The B's netminder didn't have the busiest night, but the Swedish stopper made the saves he needed to make to keep the Bruins from dropping two in a row.

Ullmark's most important save came at the beginning of the third period on a breakaway save against Columbus' Johnny Gaudreau.

The B's goaltender earned his 37th win of the season in the victory.

TWO DOWN

First period: Following a disjointed loss against the Predators on Tuesday, the Bruins let the Blue Jackets take the lead with the game's first goal in the first.

The B's only mustered eight shots in the opening frame, which also featured two power plays, and had nothing to show for their efforts after 20 minutes.

It wasn't until Lauko's fight in the second period that the Bruins woke up.

"The start of the second period I just kind of felt that we were flat, so I thought it was a great opportunity, great moment to get the guys going, get the crowd going," Lauko said. "I think we scored right after so I think it paid off and I'm happy that we won."

Carlo fighting: You don't like seeing a player with a history of head injuries fighting, but Brandon Carlo fought Boone Jenner in the third period on Thursday.

Following a questionable hit from Jenner on Carlo, the two mixed it up and it looked like Carlo took some punches to the head.

You don't see too many KOs in hockey fights anymore, but Frederic managed to drop Pederson with one punch on Thursday:

A pair of road matinees await the Bruins this weekend with the Penguins up first on Saturday. Pittsburgh is fighting for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
