BSJ Game Report: Bruins 7, Sabres 1 -- B's eclipse 100 points in lopsided victory over the Sabres

HEADLINES

B's pot five goals in third in a victory against Buffalo: Six Bruins skaters recorded multi-point outings in its 7-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday at TD Garden.

David Pastrnak and Dmitry Orlov led the B's with three points each, while Jakub Lauko, David Krejci, Pavel Zacha, Charlie Coyle and Brandon Carlo all finished with two points.

Jeremy Swayman was strong in between the pipes with a 21-save performance, and allowed the Bruins time to find their game after a slow start.

The Bruins became the fastest team in NHL history to surpass 100 points with the win as the B's needed just 61 games to reach 101 points.

Unfortunately for the B's, they couldn't escape the game without bad news as Brad Marchand left the game in the second and did not return.

Thursday's tilt began with a bit of a disjointed first period as the Bruins never really threatened Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The B's outshot the visitors, 10-6, but it was Buffalo that had the best chance of the period on a John Jason Peterka breakaway, that was ultimately denied by Swayman.

The Bruins' offense came alive in the second with two goals less than 90 seconds apart. First it was Orlov with his third goal in two games, then Lauko picked up his second of his career, as the B's pulled ahead during the middle frame.

Zacha pushed the score to 3-0 with his 16th of the season at 8:35 of the third. The 26-year-old moved into a tie for fifth on the Bruins in goals with the tally.

An empty-netter from Pastrnak was the first of a five B's goals in the third period as Bergeron, Connor Clifton and Lauko all found the back of the net to blow this one open.

Casey Mittelstadt ended Swayman's shutout bid with Buffalo's lone goal at 15:40 of the final frame, but the B's earned their ninth-straight win in its first game back at the Garden in 10 days.

THUMBS UP

Orlov has been a production machine since coming over from the Capitals with three more points against the Sabres. Orlov has now secured three goals and eight points in four games with the Black and Gold. His power play goal on Thursday opened the flood gates on offense for the B's.

THUMBS DOWN

Marchand is the latest Bruins forward to be hit by the injury bug and the second in as many games following Nick Foligno's injury in Calgary. Reinforcements are coming in the way of the Tyler Bertuzzi trade, but the B's depth is already being tested a month out from the postseason.

It looked as though a hit from Ilya Lyubushkin caused No. 63 to leave the game.

PLAY OF THE GAME

You don't often see a highlight-reel save on a Pastrnak one-timer, but that's exactly what happened during the second period on Thursday. Luukkonen threw in another stellar save seconds later for good measure.

AROUND THE ATLANTIC

The Senators spoiled Patrick Kane's Rangers debut, beating New York, 5-3, Thursday. Derick Brassard scored twice for the streaking Sens, who have now won four in a row.

LOOKING AHEAD 

The Bruins will host the new-look Rangers on Saturday afternoon where they will get their first peak at Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane as members of the Blueshirts.
