Some running thoughts on the game:
First quarter
- Matthew Judon QB hit was the highlight of first defensive drive.
- Chase Young almost killed Cam Newton thanks to an Isaiah Wynn blown block.

- Washington missed a field goal.
- Patriots drove the field on send possession with a nice pass from Newton to Meyers to open the drive in 3.26 seconds.
- Some nice Damien Harris runnings.
- Nice low crosser to Jonnu Smith in which he broke a tackle.
- Good screen to James White.
- Smith hold ruins Harris toss.
- Newton rushes third down screen, misses white.
- Mac Jones enters with 55 seconds left in first quarter. Starting line still in.
- Should have completed first pass, but Patriots don't throw the flag.

- Completes 7 yard out to Wilkerson to convert third down.
- Crowd is going nuts with every Jones throw.

(Adam Richins for BSJ)
Second quarter
- Should have been a TD to Wilkerson but he dropped it. 2.51
- On third down, Jones changes protections a few times. Goes quickly to Bourne on right. LaCosse open to the left.
- Nordin makes second straight FG, this one from 50. Patriots 6, Washington 0.
- Looked like Jones picked up a first down on a scramble but Belichick didn't challenge it again.
- Washington with first-team o-line drives for a TD before halftime. Washington 7, Patriots 6.
Halftime thoughts
- Both QBs looked exactly how they've played in practice.
- Mac Jones getting time with the first-team offensive line was significant. Belichick could have waited another series to put Jones in. He didn't. He wanted to see Jones with those guys.
- Jones did exactly what he needed to do in a preseason opener. Command the offense, take what the defense gave him. Be productive, move the team.
- I would expect this to take the competition up a level in the Eagles practices.
- Defense looked a bit rough.
Third quarter
- Jones starts and the Patriots go two-minute. Another decision that's significant. They want to see him do everything.
- Jones moves the team down the field again.
- Best throw was anticipation to throw Wilkerson open in traffic.
- Nearly killed on third downs when both tackles miss their cut blocks.
- Nordin is 3 for 3 on field goals. All three down the middle. Patriots 9, Washington 7.
- Washington misses another field goal. Patriots still lead.
- Jones staying in the game.
- Another Wilkerson drop.
- Jones sacked with nobody open as pocket collapsed.
- Just missed Gunner deep. A yard.
