PREGAME NOTES
The Bruins can advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a Game 5 win against the Capitals on Sunday night. Boston, which has won three games in a row against the Caps, would then play either the Penguins or Islanders in the next round.
Washington will try to avoid being eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season since winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.
The Bruins will play without defenseman Kevan Miller after he was injured on a hit by Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov in the second period of Game 4. Jarred Tinordi will replace Miller and be paired with Connor Clifton, who will shift back to his natural right side on the third D pair.
"I'm excited," Tinordi said. "It's tough to see players go down on the ice. You never want to get in under those circumstances. But we're here now. We have a big game tonight and I'm ready to go."
An already shorthanded B’s corps will be without another depth piece moving forward, as Bruce Cassidy noted on Sunday morning that Steven Kampfer will not be available moving forward due to an arm injury.
