BSJ Daily Briefing 12.17.20: Snow-mageddon in New England; Patriots in difference world playing out the string

Good afternoon!

Your daily rundown of what's going on with the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Revolution, and what's about to happen...

  • How'd everybody make out in the storm? Got about 11 inches at the BSJ WorldWide HQs. Finished Phase 1 of throwing. Phase 2 coming up. Might need a Phase 3.
  • The Patriots are getting ready to play out the string in their final three games — not one ... three — which is going to be weird for a lot of people around here. Not me. I covered teams that failed to go the playoffs in 2002, '03, '04, '05, '06, '08 ... man, it's been that long. Like riding a bike.
  • Step 1: Don't treat this game like any other by breaking down the matchups and injury situations. They're not like every other. Start focusing on the future.
  • Like how the entire AFC East is now basically a dead-heat on defense, after the Patriots ruled the roost for many years.
  • Did you hear that Bill Belichick has a good record against rookie QBs as they're about to face Tua Tagovailoa? Yeah, that was in games where it actually mattered if the Patriots won and lost. Don't think the players will be as geeked up this weekend. Apples and oranges.
  • Also, Tua has Brian Flores on his side.
  • No, I don't care what N'Keal Harry's footwork trainer said.
  • If you want the Patriots to tank (ahem, Longo), then listen to this from Jason Kelce ... which is what I was saying.

NOTE on National college basketball schedule. There are so many channels (what the heck is FloHoops?) and Covid cancelations, we simply can't list every game that's on. Haven't really found a good list, but the NCAA daily schedule is here.
