BSJ Daily Briefing 02.03.20: Reid, Chiefs break through; Niners collapse; Jimmy's night; Brady movement? taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good afternoon!

A few random thoughts while I wonder where Belichick watched the game from after his pregame flex...

  • We woke up in a football world where Andy Reid is a world champion and Patrick Mahomes apparently is the next pigskin messiah. Good for Andy and ... maybe, but one title doesn't mean much.

  • But I just can't get over Kyle Shanahan being in the middle of another epic Super Bowl collapse.

  • Sorry, but up 10 with the ball is a collapse. Disappointed that the man who was never afraid to keep pounding the run — and who rode it to take back control of the game — played more with Mahomes in his head than his own team down the stretch.

  • Oh, and at the end of the first half, too. Just like Belichick vs. Miami, it was the wrong call. Actually, this made Belichick look even worse. You could understand being afraid of Mahomes ... but Ryan Fitzpatrick?

  • I thought Jimmy Garoppolo played like a B-plus game for the first 50 minutes — definitely outplayed Mahomes — and then he got a little panicky down the stretch. Brady fans will roast him and talk about how he had a ball with the chance to take the lead and he couldn't do it. Yes, Brady came through many times, including in his first Super Bowl, but he also didn't at other times (Super Bowl losses to Eagles and second Giants, for example).

  • There were a flurry of Brady reports on Sunday. I parsed through them.

  • Celtics beat the Sixers without Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter.

  • Bruins finally decided to take the ice again over the weekend and were pretty damn impressive.

  • Are the Red Sox going to name a manager anytime soon? Maybe they're putting him on the equipment trucks today?
