Other NBA News and Notes

  • Big man Dewayne Dedmon wants out of Sacramento after falling out of the rotation just months after signing a $40 million offseason deal with the team. While Dedmon provides useful bulk down low, don't expect the Celtics to inquire due to his bloated salary ($13.3 million per year). Kanter and Theis are both having far better seasons than Dedmon for half the price.

  • The Jazz kicked off trade season earlier this week by selling low on Dante Exum in order to boost their bench scoring. They needed to package Exum with two second-round picks in order to acquire the expiring contract of Jordan Clarkson. The former No. 5 pick in Exum was signed to a $27 million deal last summer despite having an injury-ravaged first four seasons.

  • Rob Williams is expected to get another MRI on his bone edema in the next week or two but remains limited to non-basketball activities. A best-case scenario for his return right now seems to be sometime in late January.

  • The Hawks appear to be on the fast track towards the worst record in the NBA now after Trae Young suffered an ankle injury on Friday night. He is expected to miss some extended time for the 6-26 squad that had lost nine straight games entering Saturday night.
