PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins will once again be shorthanded on Tuesday night up in Montreal, as Patrice Bergeron will be ruled out for at least two games due to a lingering lower-body injury. Brett Ritchie will also be ruled out, potentially longer term, as he continues to be plagued by an infection.
- Even with Par Lindholm — recovering from a cut that required 18 stitches to close — expected to play this week, Boston called up Jack Studnicka and Brendan Gaunce from Providence on Monday afternoon, with Studnicka expected to make his NHL debut — centering Boston’s second line.
- With Studnicka set to play, the rest of Boston’s lineup has been turned upside down to accommodate the new pivot — with Coyle slotting over to the wing next to Studnicka, while Sean Kuraly will center the third line between Anders Bjork and Danton Heinen. Lindholm will center the fourth line, while Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net.
- The Canadiens have also been hit by the injury bug, as Jonathan Drouin and Paul Byron are expected to miss eight weeks and four weeks, respectively, due to wrist surgery and knee procedures.
- Since both players went down, Montreal has fallen into a rut — dropping four straight games, including an ugly 6-5 home loss to the Rangers on Saturday in which New York rallied from a four-goal deficit to come away with a regulation victory.
