PREGAME NOTES:
- Saturday is going to be a heavyweight bout at TD Garden, as the Capitals and Bruins rank first and second in the Eastern Conference, respectively, in terms of points on the year. Boston is looking to generate some momentum after snapping a four-game losing streak on Friday with a win over the Maple Leafs, while the Caps saw their 13-game point streak come to an end with a 5-2 loss to the Canadiens on Friday night. Boston has yet to suffer a regulation loss at TD Garden this season.
- Boston's lineup has been tossed in a blender — as Patrice Bergeron will be a late scratch due to a lower-body injury. With Bergeron out, David Krejci will center the top line, while Charlie Coyle will slot in as the second-line pivot. Paul Carey was recalled and will play on the third line with Par Lindholm and Trent Frederic, while the Kuraly line will remain the same.
- While Boston posted a win over the Capitals in their last meeting — a 1-0 road victory back on Feb. 3 — the Bruins had lost 14 straight games to the Capitals prior to that matchup.
- Braden Holtby has looked very mortal this season for Washington, posting a .903 save percentage while splitting time with Ilya Samsonov in net. Still, Holtby has had the Bruins’ number in his career with a 16-3-0 record and a .946 save percentage against the B’s.
