LIVE COVERAGE:
11:40: Final: Avalanche 4, Bruins 2. More to come.
11:36: Empty net for Boston. 1:40 left.
11:29: Burakovsky scores with 7:06 to go. 3-2 game.
11:10: Marchand & Pastrnak with a 2-0n-1 — but Grubauer is there for the stop. Still a 2-2 game after a goal from DeBrusk is overturned upon review.
11:01: Third period underway.
10:52: Chris Wagner and Joakim Nordstrom have matched up against Nathan MacKinnon for about 3:42 of 5v5 TOI so far tonight. Boston with a 3-0 edge in scoring chances during that stretch. Strong shifts from the fourth line tonight.
10:42: End Second: Bruins 2, Avs 2 - Boston is going to have 1:42 of a power play to open the third.
10:40: Bruins holding Colorado without a SOG for the last 6 minutes.
10:23: Avs pick off a feed from Marchand and cash in on the turnover. 2-2 game.
10:21: Backes out of the box. Good killing from Nordstrom on that sequence. Avs limited to 1 SOG.
10:15: David Backes off for a trip. Avs power play is back up.
10:11: Karson Kuhlman appears to score, but it's waved off due to goaltender interference.
10:03: Zdeno Chara (42 years, 5 months, 7 days) might be the oldest active player in the NHL, but he's only the 3rd oldest Bruin to score a regular-season goal. Mark Recchi (43 years old) & Johnny Bucyk (42 years, 9 months, 13 days) have him beat there.
9:46: End First: Bruins lead, 2-1.
9:44: MacKinnon scores with 54.7 seconds left in the first. Ugly finish for Boston after a strong period of play. Sleepy too many men call proves costly.
9:42: Too many men on the ice for Boston.
9:40: Chara makes it 2-0. Bruins getting the best of the MacKinnon line so far. Impressive start for Boston. Halak doing it all down the other end of the ice.

PREGAME NOTES
- The Bruins, off to their best start in 18 years, will look to open a campaign with four straight road wins for the first time in franchise history when they take on the Avalanche on Thursday night. The last time Boston won four straight games — home or away — to open a season was back in 1990-91. Boston’s best start ever was a 6-0-0 run to open the 1937-38 campaign.
- One matchup to keep tabs on — Jake DeBrusk and Nazem Kadri. The former Maple Leaf pivot last played against Boston back in April, where he earned a series-long suspension after cross-checking DeBrusk in the head during Game 2 of the opening round.
- Colorado has had plenty of success against Boston over the years, posting a 4-0-1 record in its last five games vs. the B’s. The last time Boston beat the Avs in regulation was all the way back on Nov. 13, 2016.
- Joakim Nordstrom will make his season debut on Thursday, with the versatile forward returning to the lineup alongside his regular linemates in Sean Kuraly and Chris Wagner. He will skate at left wing, while both Par Lindholm and Brett Ritchie will be scratched from the lineup.
- Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net for Boston. The backup goalie is 6-4-2 with a 2.71 goals-against average, .909 save percentage and one shutout against the Avalanche in his career.
